Think to elementary courses. Did your children learn phonics and how you can sound out words using syllables? Most likely not. For some reason, the education system decided Finland education that learning new words by sight only was the better way. Students were given a page full of age-appropriate "sight" words. They were never taught how to sound them out or how to them into syllables. After they recognized comprehensive word, these folks were fine. Due to the "sight words" method produced high-school students who can't sound out unfamiliar words or figure out how to pronounce them.
I recently read an Op Ed piece about how precisely family income levels determined the success of an individual. I've seen students from low income family's rise to be outstanding students and I've seen more than my great number of students from middle to upper income families fail attending school.
Don't be intimidated. Teachers and principals may possess a lot of knowledge about education level. But you your world's greatest expert on your child. You shouldn't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to (respectfully) disagree if something doesn't seem right. Ultimately, parents must hold school officials accountable for the education they deliver.
Let's support our family. They are our future. Government alone has not solved the problem of America's embarrassingly low education positioning your site. Parents and communities must step up to the bowl.
